My family was definitely touched by God.”
We were special, and we knew it. Rev. Minner was teaching us all he knew about entertainment. For 7 years, we were in training. This was our new direction in life. We were becoming proficient at what we did. We had earned quite a reputation here in Las Vegas. L.A.P. had performed at every elementary school, sixth grade center, junior high, and high school in the school district. We ministered in every church denomination. We were invited to minister at some L.D.S. Churches, and yes, we even ministered at a meeting of Hadassah at Temple Beth Shalom, a local Jewish Synagogue. We performed concerts in every hotel in Las Vegas. But a great reputation doesn’t pay the bills. And so we struggled during this seven year period. Rev. Minner and his department heads would have periodic meetings to discuss: How are we going to pay this month’s bills? How are we going to fix the car? Etc. Here are just 3 of the ideas they came up with: 1. Let’s have a car wash. 2. Once a year, let’s do a fund raiser with star’s like; The Judds, Lee Greenwood, etc. 3. Let’s call one of our board members and ask them for help. Here are some of our results:
It got to the point where one year, we were doing a car wash a week, on the average, just to survive. Love All People did present 1 fund raising concert a year from 1980 to 1985. But this turned out to be a game of catch up. With all our combined efforts to make each concert a success, we ended up each year not even catching up on all our past due bills for that year. And as for our board members, it was a good month if we only had to call each board member once for help. As the writer of proverbs is famous for saying: it seemed like all our efforts were nothing more than chasing after the wind.
